My name is Sonya Ponomareva.
I’m a writer, researcher, weird stuff connaisseur and a roommate to one really angry cat.
Originally from a small industrial city in Central Russia, I lived almost a third of my life in Saint Petersburg, where I got degrees in philosophy and foreign literature, a very mean cat and proclivity to a garbage weather. At present, I am writing my PhD about urban space in the works of Georges Perec at the University of Cologne. In my work, I’m interested in the contradictions of carnal experience that women face while living in the city. Most of my work is focused on the question of the double alienation that women suffer from the urban environment with its indifferent anonymity and patriarchal structures.

In the modern world, reading and writing at first glance are considered complimentary activities. Writer is the one who are always compassionate about literature, and he lives surrounded by books. Although we seemingly value books, it is impossible for us to imagine time dedicated specifically to reading. While writing is considered a productive activity, reading is seen as only a pastime or a distraction from a “real work”. Was it always like this? And if no, how did this impassable rift between reading and writing come about?
In a human costume
On a carnival, everything shifts from its usual place, and people for a night could be someone else. But what about somebody who never got their own place? Will the freedom of carnival help them to look for themselves or alienate from the rest of the world even more? And what if a human for you is only a loose uncomfortable costume? Could you be someone else?
